1792 Fab Large Georgian English Sterling Silver Swing Handle Cake Basket
Presented is a fantastic quality Georgian English sterling silver cake basket from 1792. The basket is roughly oval with a reeded handle and rim and a mirror bright interior finish. The center of the interior surface has a crest of a bird holding a branch, while either side of the interior closer to the rim has a gryphon's head, also holding a branch. This is a very well made and high quality piece of old English silver work, and would be an exceptional addition to any home or collection.
This piece is hallmarked on the underside with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head crowned for the city of London, the date letter r for 1792, the King George III head duty mark, and the maker's mark for Joseph Scammell. The underside of the handle is also hallmarked with the maker's mark and the lion passant. This piece is in great overall condition. There are some dents to the interior surface, but these are hard to notice.
There are no splits, no breaks, no monogram removals, and no repairs. Any black you see in the photos is merely reflections that are hard to avoid when photographing shiny silver, and do not represent damages or problems of any sort.
