Antique 1805 English Georgian Sterling Silver Bateman Fruit Bowl Serving Spoon
Antique 1805 English Georgian Sterling Silver Bateman Fruit Bowl Serving Spoon. Presented is an antique, English sterling silver serving spoon made by the famous Bateman family of London in 1805. This piece was made by William and either Peter or Anne, but we cannot be sure which one because the top initials are worn. This Georgian piece is done in a classic form and the handle is engraved with design. The bowl of the spoon is hand chased with lovely fruit decorations and you can still see some of the original gold wash.
The back of the handle is marked with the lion passant for sterling silver purity, the crowned leopard's head for the city of London, a duty mark of the king's head, a date letter K for the year 1805 and a maker's mark for William Bateman and one of his siblings (the top initials are worn). This piece is in great overall condition, especially when considering age. There is minor surface wear, but the designs are crisp and there are no damages or repairs.
