Presented is a wonderful pair of English Georgian sterling silver sugar tongs or sugar nips. These tongs date to 1809 and were made by Peter & William Bateman. The tongs are beautifully hand engraved with bright cut designs.
The endpiece of the tongs has a blank cartouche, never monogrammed. This piece is hallmarked on the inner sides with the lion passant for sterling silver, the date letter O for 1809, King George III's head duty mark, and the maker's mark for Peter & William Bateman.
This piece is in great condition. The details of the engraved designs are nice and crisp.
