Antique English Georgian Period Repousse Silver Punch Toddy Ladle, 18th-19th C
Antique English Georgian Silver Punch Toddy Ladle. Antique English Georgian Period Repousse Silver Punch Toddy Ladle, 18th-19th C. Likely George II or George III, the circular bowl repousse and chased with grape vine pattern around a floral medallion; the front with C-scroll cartouche and engraved initials appears to read J. ; the lip decorated with floral/leaf pattern band and the tapered handle held in place by a traditional heart shaped plaque with engraved border.

This ladle would originally have been fitted with a long handle, likely of carved wood, baleen or bone. Apparently unmarked (which is not uncommon for ladles from this period).

Punch ladles were used for serving punch, a popular libation first introduced to Great Britain in the mid-17th century (prior to the popularity of wine). A scarcity of silver at the beginning of the 18th century resulted in the use of baleen (whale bone), ivory and wooden handles. Dimensions: 3.8" long x 2.3" wide x 1.75 deep (9.65cm x 5.9cm x 4.4cm).

Weight: 0.93 troy oz. Overall, the ladle is in fair/good condition with appropriate signs of age. Lightly tarnished, the silver with minor abrasions and a few shallow dents/bends along the surface and edges.

The original carved handle is missing. All major flaws are noted in the condition report above; however, as each of our items is unique and with a history of it's own, there may be minor flaws and signs of age from years of handing which are not mentioned. Please review all images carefully for an accurate depiction of the condition.
