Presented is a fantastic pair of English sterling silver candlesticks. These candlesticks date to 1963 and were made by D J Silver Repairs. Although these are modern candlesticks, they are done in an ornate 1700s style.
The candlesticks are decorated with shell designs around the base and top of the wax drips/bobeches. The wax drips are removable, for ease of cleaning. The candlesticks are weighted/filled for stability. The silver is very thick and heavy. The undersides are felted so they won't scratch surfaces. These candlesticks are in great condition. There are no splits, no breaks, no dents, no cracks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs. The candlesticks are hallmarked on the side of the base with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head for the city of London, the date letter h for 1963, and the maker's mark for D J Silver Repairs. There is also a Star of David mark, which we don't know the significance of.
The bobeches/wax drips are also hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling silver and the leopard's head for the city of London. The underside of the base is stamped with the lion passant for sterling silver.
Each candlestick is about 9 3/4 inches tall. The total weight for the pair is 890 grams. We estimate that about 50% of this weight is sterling silver. The weight of just the bobeches/wax drips, which are solid sterling silver, is 97 grams. Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution.
