Pair Antique 1808 Georgian English Sterling Silver Large Tazzas Compotes. Presented is an antique pair of English, sterling silver tazzas or compotes made in 1808 by Thomas and Joseph Guest of London.
This early 19th century, Georgian set is done in a large size and each piece is a nice, heavy weight. Each plate or dish is raised on a pedestal base. The rims and the bases are finely hand engraved and hand chased with beautiful decorations. The pieces have never been monogrammed.
The underside of each bears the crowned leopard's head symbol for the city of London, the lion passant for sterling silver purity, a duty mark of the king's head, a date letter N for the year 1808 and a maker's mark for Thomas and Joseph Guest. This pair is in good overall condition for its age.
The engraved designs are crisp. There are numerous old, solder repairs to the rims, but as you can see in the photographs, these repairs are mostly only visible from the underside of each piece. There are also some minor dents. To be expected on 210 year old silver. Total weight: 1,394 grams or 49.2 ounces.
