Stunning English Sterling Nutmeg Grater, Joseph Willmore, London, 1813
GEORGIAN SILVER NUTMEG GRATER - JOSEPH WILLMORE - LONDON 1813. Hallmarks are the Lion Passant (Sterling), Leopard's Head Mark for London. Date stamp "S" inside a box - for the year 1813. The paid duty mark - with the sideways profile.
And a JW for Joseph Willmore. Weight: 43.6 grams sterling. IT IS A BEAUTIFUL PIECE. TRULY A WORK OF ART. THIS PIECE HAS A MONOGRAM "BC" IN A LOVELY DESIGN ON THE TOP. The bottom opens for storage of the nutmeg and to hold grated nutmeg, and the top opens to grate the nutmeg.There is a crease where it was probably forced at some point - it is on the bottom and is clearly visible in the final photo and allows for a slight opening at the bottom - which is still closes firmly.
